Could we have some bandaids please?

Accidents

Children with minor abrasions report immediately to the teacher on playground duty who will direct the child to Sick Bay for treatment.

In the case of serious injury (severe lacerations, broken bones, suspected concussion etc) a School Administrative Officer will advise the School Principal before contacting the parent and the Ambulance. Reports of all serious injuries are completed and kept on file at school.

It is essential that parents provide us with up to date emergency contact/telephone information so that they can be notified by the school of any serious problems that may occur during the day.

Dental Health Clinic

The School Dental Health Clinic visits our school during Term 2 to provide children in K, 2, 4 and 6 with a free dental health check. Students in other years have the opportunity to book an appointment if required.

Illness

Sick children will be sent to Sick Bay where their condition will be monitored by a School Administrative Officer for 30-45 minutes. If, after this time, the child is too ill to return to class, his/her parents will be contacted and asked to take him/her home.

Immunisation Certificates
(NSW Public Health Act, 1991)

Parents of children starting school in Kindergarten from 2005 onwards must present an Immunisation History Statement at the time of enrolment.

This does not mean that your child has to be immunised. It means that if there is an outbreak of an infectious disease such as Whooping Cough or Measles, children who are not immunised will have to stay at home during the outbreak.

Immunisation History Statements may be obtained from your doctor or Community Health Staff.

Medicines

The Department of Education and Training has advised that medicines are to be administered at school in urgent cases only and then only with the approval of the School Principal.

Once this approval has been obtained, the medicine (clearly labelled) in original packaging, together with detailed written instructions for its administration, must be sent to and retained in the school office.

Skin Protection

We have in operation a Sun Smart Policy which is implemented especially during Terms 1 and 4 each year. The policy states that students are encouraged to wear hats that protect the face, neck and ears and to play in shaded areas of the playground if they do not have a hat with them. It is also recommended they apply SPF 15+ broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen before any outdoor activities. This is provided in each classroom by the P&C.

Student Welfare & Discipline Policy

Our school has a comprehensive Student Welfare and Discipline Policy that is available at the school office. Through this program the school aims to help its students develop:

  • A sense of enjoyment and satisfaction from learning
  • An ability to communicate effectively
  • A coherent set of values to guide behaviour
  • A sense of personal and social responsibility for their actions and decisions
  • A sense of personal dignity and worth
  • A sense of cultural identity
  • a feeling of belonging to the wider community
  • An awareness of social and parental expectations
  • A caring attitude towards others
  • An ability to form satisfying and stable relationships

In support of this, school rules are prepared for the purpose of providing a safe, ordered, cooperative environment in which children gain the self-discipline and responsibility required for life. The administration of school rules is the responsibility of all staff members. Our school rules are expressed as follows:

Students will...

  • Be kind to others
  • Play sensibly
  • Do the right thing
  • Always do their best
